Maxim WAKULTSCHIK

Biography

The art of Maxim Wakultschik consists of mathematically, meticulously, calculated, and precisely constructed works in which a formal order emerges individual and independent parts.

In his complex and multi-layered works, he explores the interplay of light and shadow, surface and structure, and color vibrations. The emphasis is always on the effect that arises from the reflection of ambient light, leading to oscillating variations of reality that continually challenge the viewer to take a proactive approach to the artworks.

When encountering an artwork by Maxim Wakultschik, the slightest movement, the slightest change of perspective leads to a new and astonishing impression. Consequently, the works become kinetic objects in which the boundary between reality and illusion is blurred. Maxim Wakultschik continually invites us to surpass the limits of our perception.

Born in Minsk, Belarus, he has been recognized artist for decades worldwide: Budapests, Geneva, Houston, London, Los Angeles, Majorca, Zurich, Mykonos, Seoul, Vienna, Brussels, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Hamburg... - This is just a selection of cities where Wakultschik's works are successfully exhibited and sold.
His artistic talent was discovered and specifically encouraged at the age of eleven. Until the end of the Soviet Union, Wakultschik studied the fundamentals of classical art and painting at the Belarusian High School of Arts.

In 1992, he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf where he studied fine arts with Beate Schiff and Janis Kounellis. It is there that he discovers his fascination for spatial elements - objects, sculptures and reliefs. He uses materials as wood, glass, paper, and metal to create surprising and unique 3D objects.
