His aesthetic is based on an exploration of the world of childhood; approach influenced on the one hand by Comics and more particularly Robert Crumb whom he met in 2018, and on the other hand, by the movements of New Realism and Pop Art with artists such as Niki de Saint-Phalle, Arman, Yves Klein and Andy Warhol.Through formal proposals that he always wanted to be playful and accessible at any age, the artist also transposed his reflections on technique. He adresses the question of the technical mastery to which the notions of balance and freedom are attached.
Patrick Hughes, born Peter David Hughes on 20 October 1939 in Birmingham, England, is an artist best known for inventing a unique optical illusion known as ‘reverspective’: a three-dimensional relief painting in which the objects that appear closest to the viewer are in fact the furthest away in space. His work plays with perspective and distance, challenging and sometimes disorientating his audience. Currently living and working in London, England, Hughes continues to follow the traditions of Pop Art, Optical Art and Surrealism.
Jeff Koons is the world's most expensive living artist. He is famous for his giant sculptures and paintings, as well as his talent for provocation. His work is particularly influenced by the advertising iconography and American pop art of the 1980s. Fond of kitsch, he exploites this vein to the full and wins over collectors the world over. He uses icons of popular culture from the USA to add to his aesthetic. His work ‘Rabbit’, to be auctioned in 2019 by Christie's in New York, sold for 91 million dollars, an all-time record for a living artist.
LEO MANELLI
FRANCK TORDJMANN
HONG YI ZHUANG
Leo Manelli intrigues as much as he fascinates. As an extraordinary artist, he is known for his ability to merge classical painting with anachronistic elements drawn from art and luxury, creating a unique blend of eras and cultures. A talented realistic painter, he meticulously reproduces masterpieces, often sourced from prestigious museum collections. However, his creative process remains a mystery to those around him. Leo Manelli appropriates these works to bridge the centuries and breathe life into artworks of timeless beauty.
Self-taught, it was a meeting with César in Nice in 1992 that led Tordjmann to sculpture. His favourite material was soon Plexiglas. His aerial sculptures, unique and original works, are always composed of violins or other musical instruments. His pure compositions play with transparency and light to evoke emotion and reflection. Over the years and through his exhibitions, he has continued to renew his work, but always pursuing his concept of the memory of objects, as with his ‘bouquets d'instruments’, sculptures made from real saxophones or trumpets.
It is his combination of Chinese background and European influence that marks Zhuang's work. Embracing his present without losing his past, he attempts to define a sense of self that exists between the two and enacts this personal struggle visually, vacillating between phases of controlled planning, emotional gesture and careful editing that result in works of beauty, suprise, and curiosity. Characterised by daringly-bold colour palettes, Zhuang's sophisticated, repetitive, and precise floral motifs symbolize as a universal symbol of prosperity and optimism.
